Are you a follower of the Masses?

Have you ever heard people rave about something that you wanted to experience only because what they were saying about it – then once you experience it you’re like BLAH. It’s amazing how the masses opinion always seems to be treated like facts. I believe that is what makes mass media outlets like social networks, TV etc. so powerful, because they can instantly alter an entire culture by the power of suggestion. I heard a friend say one time that a crowd is always dumb. I laughed immediately, but when I thought about it makes sense. When you begin to mesh into a crowd you often times have to forsake your on individuality to go with the flow. This is why it is good to surround yourself with people who are sharper than you are.

Here is what Romans 12:1-2 Message Bible Version says

12 1-2 So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

We can’t be so well-adjusted to the culture that we fit right in thoughtlessly. Let’s do some introspection. While in a group do you normally go with the flow or do you stand out? Are you more comfortable being a leader or a follower? Ask yourself these questions, afterwards if you realize you are one of the ones who have simply giving themselves to the suggestions of this culture ask God to give you the grace to kick against the prick!
