Quick Guide To Success

See your goal

Always remember the reason behind your goal. Keep yourself enthused by reliving the moment that it first came to mind. Remind yourself of the end result that you want to achieve. Break your goal into smaller tasks so that you can see your progression over time.

Understand the obstacles

Success comes with many challenges. There will be certain factors that will attempt to hinder or distract you. Get an idea of what those challenges will be and plan and prepare yourself to overcome them.

Create a positive mental picture

You must visualize your goal, see yourself being or doing whatever it is that you want. Use imagery; create a vision board; write it down or draw it out; use positive language concerning your goal.

Clear your mind of self-doubt

Don’t doubt yourself. Know what you are capable of and believe that with your hard work and time you can achieve anything.

Embrace the challenge

Challenges can be a great thing because they teach us about ourselves, and cause us to develop the tools necessary to deal with difficulties. Use all the challenges that come your way to better yourself and understand how to use them to your advantage.

Stay on track

Obstacles will come your way, and sometimes may even derail you. If you mess up, simply pick back up from where you left off. Do your best to stay on task: focus, plan ahead, get support, and develop habits that lead to achievement.

Show the world you can do it!

An Overnight Success Does Not Happen Overnight

Image result for overnight success doesn't happen overnight

In this age of internet stars, and instant fame through social media, everything seems like instant success. It has trained our minds to believe that we can do what we desire without putting in the time. If we don’t see the success that we want within a couple of months we give up, thinking that this isn’t for us.

What we call an ‘overnight success’ is really a result of the blood, sweat and tears that went on behind the scenes possibly for years previously. Becoming an ‘overnight success’ will take lots of:

TIME. We have to get back the desire to work for what we want, and be willing to work at it for as long as it takes. There are no short-cuts to success. The key is to be prepared, so that when an opportunity arises we can quickly act on it. A common characteristic of an overnight success is that they will put in the time that others are unwilling to.

PERSISTENCE. There will be good days and bad days, failures and success, but an overnight success will keep on pushing. Hearing a ‘no’ does not mean give up, it means regroup.

FOCUS. It has become so easy to jump from goal to goal, opportunity to opportunity without accomplishing much. An overnight success understands the value of consistency and seeing things through to obtain the desired result. Your focus is what will keep you grounded and connected to purpose despite the circumstances.

Make The Thanksgiving Feeling Last

Image result for Make The Thanksgiving Feeling Last

Do you remember that overwhelming feeling of thankfulness that you had when you woke up on Thanksgiving morning? Well it’s possible to have that feeling every day.

Let your gratitude continue to be a part of your daily life. In between the day to day struggles of life, designate moments and time periods for appreciating yourself and others just like you do during the holiday season. When your focus is on the good you already possess in your life instead of what you do not have, there will be an immediate release of pressure, and your goals will take on a new perspective. Share your appreciation with others and be a source of encouragement to them.

Gratitude can turn any common day into Thanksgiving!

Embrace the Unexpected

How would you describe yourself: are you more of a control freak or a happy-go-lucky, roll with the punches type of person? As much as I have written about organization, goal setting, and planning in previous blogs, I also have to emphasize that being able to deal with the un-planned situations is just as important to really live a happy, successful life. In fact, it is often the unexpected, random occurrences in life and business that facilitate opportunities or conditions which deliver the most joy or the most important lessons.

Sometimes we have to embrace the chaos. In the midst of all the plans there will undoubtedly be things that we cannot control, and that’s ok. The key is to allow these unexpected occurrences to take place without discouraging or derailing your dreams. The chaos that may ensue may not be chaos at all, but a way for you to refocus or even change focus. Success will depend on how you respond to random events. Be careful not to let opportunities pass you by, in life and in business, because it was not part of your plan.

Be Careful of Your Ego

Image result for ego

The ego is the part of us that is self-conscious and is connected to our self-esteem and self-importance. It basically dictates your opinion of yourself. Your ego is not a bad thing, but when it becomes the force behind your decisions and perception, then it becomes a problem. Having a high level of confidence in yourself is great, and often necessary for success, but if you begin to find that your choices and reasoning are increasingly self-serving then it’s time to check your ego.

Ego is not just about arrogance, but can be rooted in a hunger for approval and belonging. Some warning signs that you ego is in control are: you always have to be right; you always have to have more – the ego feels that there won’t be enough or things will run out; you always have to win and hate losing – the ego thrives on ruthlessly out-doing others.

Here are some ways to overcome an inflated ego: focus on generosity instead of having more. Try to love without asking ‘what’s in it for me?’ Be compassionate and look for ways that you can help others. Embrace differences and learn to find the value in the uniqueness of others.

Healthful Living 101: Self-discipline

Image result for self-discipline

A healthy life is a disciplined life. Self-discipline is the ability to control your feelings and overcome your weaknesses; the ability to pursue what you think is right despite temptations to abandon it. Discipline is important because it brings stability and structure to your life, by forcing you to make certain beneficial decisions. Discipline limits obsessive behaviors and promotes healthy ones. Overcoming a weakness is a very important part of self-discipline, as essentially this is the reason for having discipline.

The key to self-discipline is consistency. Consistency is conformity in the application of something. Therefore, if self-discipline is to be maintained you must hold true to your disciplinary goal, without faltering. We’ll use weight control again as an example. If the three days you picked to work out are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, no matter what, you should consistently go to the gym on the days, to the point that it becomes a habit and a natural part of your life routine.

So many make the mistake of keeping tempting situations in front of them, whilst trying to develop self-discipline. Unless you have incredibly high self-control, it will be virtually impossible to stay disciplined if tempting factors constantly surrounds you. Once again we’ll use the weight control as example. So, you already committed to going the gym three times a week, no matter what; however, one day on the way to the gym, you hear that Krispy Kreme is offering free donuts today. The route you regularly take to the gym will take you right past Krispy Kreme, but to avoid a tempting situation, you decide to take a different route, and so preserving your dietary program. Decisions like this will make maintaining self-discipline successful.

The last key to maintaining self-discipline is to be able to forgive yourself and move forward when a mistake is made. No one is perfect and we’ll all make mistakes sometimes. So don’t let your mistakes weigh you down, brush yourself off and pick up where you started, don’t allow yourself to wallow in self-pity. So many times people that are trying to maintain self-discipline mess up then go into a downward cycle, and in the case of weight control, they gain back or lose all the weight they worked so hard to lose or gain. Don’t let that be you. The next time you fall, be prepared to get straight back up.
