If you have been following these recent blogs, you’ll know that we have been exploring how to be an effective marketplace minister. If you are working a job that you feel is not fulfilling the ministry that God has cultivated within you then go ahead and make a change. Here are some guidelines on recognizing what it is you should be doing.
What upsets you? We usually look to the things that we enjoy the most as a sign of what we should be doing, but have you considered what upsets you? The things that cause you to be the most upset or frustrated are probably where your passions lie. Instead of avoiding you dissatisfaction use it to bring about changes. We have all devised a plan in our imagination of how we would “fix it” if we were in charge. You can start small or go big, but use your passion to introduce change, variation or modification to the area that you are passionate about.
Listen to others. Those around you that know you well can probably give you some insight into what you should be doing. The people you are close to can tell you what they have noticed about you, what makes you happy, what you enjoy, what you value. Chances are they have already suggested to you ways to put your skills to use, but you just haven’t been listening.
What are you good at? You have skills, talents and abilities that are a tell-tale sign of what you should be doing. As you use those abilities that are inherent to you, experience will allow you to explore and add to your skill-set. Don’t limit yourself, be open to learning and discovering through your experiences.
Combining these three tips and answering the questions that arise out of them will help you to discover what you should be doing. Remember to think without limitation, even if it means moving into an area that you never thought of yourself being in. God already purposed your position from before you were born, it’s up to you to discover it.
