Investing in Yourself

Everybody is invested or investing in something, but few people are investing into themselves!

Self-Investment is the most profitable investment you ever make. It yields not only future returns, but often a current pay-off as well. The surest way to achieve a better quality life, to be successful, productive, and satisfied is to place a priority on investing in both personal and professional growth. The effort you put into consistently investing in yourself plays a large role in determining the quality of your life now and in the future.

Below are three way you can invest in yourself.

Develop your skills. Improving your skills doesn’t always mean investing in higher education. You can download eBooks of pertinent topics to your career, subscribe to current blogs, and take continued education classes.

Explore your creative side. There is a fountain of creativity within most of us that has never been tapped or certainly hasn’t been used to its highest potential. It’s time to tap into that Creativity! You’ve been inside of the box too long and the world is waiting to see what you will create when you decided to create outside of the lines. Below are some ideas that can help jump start your creativity.

  • Learn a new language
  • write something – a book, short stories, poetry, anything
  • Explore the outside world
  • Enjoy music
  • Create something tangible – paint, sculpt, make pottery, make jewelry or design your own clothes.

Nurture your mind and body. Nurturing both your mind and body allows you to have more to give now and  in the future, more energy, more knowledge, more ideas, greater strength, physical and mental endurance.

Expand your mind. Learning new things and keeping your mind active even in simple ways helps to grow and maintain your mental ability.

  • Read – anything and everything
  • Explore culture – attend performances, listen to different style of music, travel, or join an organization or group comprised of people from different backgrounds.
  • Open your mind – engage in conversations with those who disagree with you. Look at an argument and try to make a case for the opposing point of view.
  • Keep your mind active

Investing in yourself truly makes a difference in your life, your well-being, and your ability to thrive and perform to the best of your ability. The extent to which you invest in yourself, mind and body, not only shapes the way you interact with the outside world, it often reflects the opinion you have of yourself. Your future is in large part determined by your willingness and ability to invest in yourself now.

Trusting in Him

trust-in-the-lord.jpg

One thing I know for sure is the world is filled with uncertainties. From terrorism, to the economy– not one second past the present is really guaranteed. With that being said I often wonder how those who don’t believe in anything greater than them handle the inescapable trouble of life. I’m reminded of the scripture

Psalms 61:2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

This scriptures totally sums up my life— when life gets hard I reach out to something that is bigger and better than what I am and he helps me EVERY TIME. See it’s my Faith that gives me the strength to do what I do. My Faith fuels my smile, my drive and my temperament. It is the motherboard of my soul. Without faith, I’m left to myself and my own reasons.

Psalms 3:5 – 7 says:

5. Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.6. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

This is the benefit of trusting someone higher than you – I’m not stuck with my own understanding. The truth of the matter is I don’t understand it all and I can’t figure it all out all the time, but when I pray he gives me direction.

I want to encourage you today to not take it all on yourself. This is what God is for, take time right now to talk to him, give him all your troubles, he’ll give you an understanding that’s far beyond what you can see right now.

Being Successful!

Success isn’t magical. It takes intention and purpose, furthermore it’s more of an inward work than outward. Below I’ve listed 3 things you have to do or become to achieve and maintain success.

1. Think positive. It’s so much easier to be pessimistic than to be optimistic, isn’t it? To look at the half empty glass instead of the half full glass, to criticize and complain instead of expressing our appreciation and gratitude for everything that happens to us and all around us. Well, not anymore.

2. Set goals and write them with target schedules. Without dreams, how can we have a winning attitude to fight life’s many battles? Without target schedules, goals are fantasies and unexciting.

3. Passion. We should love our work, whatever our vocation. We should be the best and throw away the “It’s already okay” mindset.

I want to hear your thoughts….what are your steps for success.

How Do You Know When It’s Time For Change?

time-for-change

I feel like this needs repeating.

A lot of times we live a hesitant, tentative life, totally unaware of the strength and power that we have to get much more out of our lives. Today I want to challenge you to NOT be one of them.  Don’t wait until you have drained yourself of life completely before paying attention to the signs it’s time for a change.

I want to share with you some tell tell signs, when it’s time for a change.

You’ve forgotten you have choices. Learn to recognize when enough is enough. Sometimes you have to stop hitting your head against the proverbial wall and move on. You don’t have to continue living in the drama just because it’s familiar.

Allow yourself to let go of people and situations, ideas and feelings that aren’t conducive to the nourishment of your growth, or your soul. Let go. Let go now.

You’ve forgotten that you’re deserving of the best. Not everyone will look at you the same. But everyone deserves to have someone in their corner who appreciates them just as they are. Feelings of worth will never flourish in an atmosphere of criticism, where mistakes aren’t tolerated and differences are belittled.

If you’re besieged by people who are discouraging and critical, the spark of inspiration and hope that allows you to be in touch with your deepest potential is not easily recognized.

You’ve lost your passion. You’re lifestyle no longer fits the person you’ve become.  There’s no spring in your step, no joy in your heart. Life is just one ho hum day at a time. You’ve forgotten a time when you jumped out of bed with a smile in your heart.

External motivation doesn’t last long. Material possessions and money all have their place…but if you want to live a passionate life it’s the internal motivation that will get you there. And it’s rarely exhausted until the dream comes true.

Life is too short to continually go around the same mountain over and over. If you find yourself in the above, IT’S TIME TO MAKE A MOVE!

Are You Rushing?

Are you in a rush?

Most people think running around as fast as they can trying to get things done, doing multiple things at once, results in more efficiency and productivity. You would be surprised to learn that when rushing you are actually creating inefficiency and lack of productivity? How many details do you overlook and wrong decisions do you make when you’re on turbo speed? Then, ask yourself how much time it takes you to go back and correct all the errors that were made?

The fact is, we accomplish a lot less when we’re in a hurry and dividing our attention between several different things at one time. The reason for this can easily be explained from an energetic point of view. You would naturally assume that the faster you are going, the faster your energy vibration, and therefore, you are attracting the same faster, higher vibration of the things around you. This type of raised vibration is aligned with happiness, peace, joy, and a general ease of flow to life. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

The truth is that our bodies and minds working at a breakneck pace is experienced on a frequency that is very low and slow. This means that we align ourselves with other things that are of a low vibration, like anger, fear, worry, and frustration. When we’re rushing around and not being mindful of our thoughts and actions, we are creating more of what we’re trying to avoid. This is when mistakes happen, decisions are poor, and nothing seems to go right.

Take a moment throughout your day and ask yourself if you feel centered or off-balance. If you feel centered, then you’re calm, in control of your emotions, and aware of everything that’s happening around you, which you are able to handle with efficiency. If you feel off-balance, then you are scattered, stressed, and everything you touch turns into a big mess…one thing goes wrong, then another, then another until you wish you hadn’t gotten out of bed that day!

Resist the urge to be a busy body, in the beginning of your day take the time to organize a to-do list. Put things on the list according to it’s priority. Then do as much as you can to focus on that one thing until it is properly and excellently accomplished. Doing that for each line item on your to-do list will leave you feeling more effective and accomplished!

The Importance of Reading

Everyone knows that reading is important, but have you ever asked yourself why that is so? In this post, I will list out 8 reasons why reading is important. I hope you can really find out the reason why reading is so important for you, so you can get a brand new desire to explore the world of reading.

Tools of Communicating – You’ve heard it before – Communication is key! With social media being the main form of communication for a lot of this current generation it isn’t a wonder that true communication is just non-existent. Reading is a great way to increase or polish up on your communication skills. The reading experience should teach you new words and reinforce proper sentence structure. As you communicate through reading, you understand more, and thus you can communicate better with people. Through reading, you build a more solid foundation for communication.

Relieves Stress – Reading is great for your mental health. Studies show that half an hour of dedicated reading is better for your stress levels than several other more traditional methods of relaxation, like having a cup of tea or listening to music. It reduced stress levels by up to 68 percent. This is due to partially escapism and partially physical focus: complete immersion in a book means the body is less focussed on its own tense muscles, and relaxes.

Exercises the Brain – Just like muscles, the brain benefits from a good workout. Reading is more neurobiologically demanding than processing images or speech. Parts of the brain that have evolved for other functions—such as vision, language, and associative learning—connect in a specific neural circuit for reading, which is very challenging, Your intelligence is called to action and you have to involve yourself with greater concentration. When you read, you have more time to think. Reading gives you a unique pause button from the craziness of the world around us.

I want to challenge you to pick up a book, especially if you are stressed and looking for a non-time consuming habit that is cost effective. Exercise your brain at least once a day and you will notice a significant difference in your life!

Have You Counted Up the Cost?

Luke 14:28-30 The Message (MSG)

28-30 “Is there anyone here who, planning to build a new house, doesn’t first sit down and figure the cost so you’ll know if you can complete it? If you only get the foundation laid and then run out of money, you’re going to look pretty foolish. Everyone passing by will poke fun at you: ‘He started something he couldn’t finish.’

Are you one of those people who start great but never finish at all. When you put it in perspective, the goal of life is to finish, you don’t have to be the fastest, but you have to finish. So we’re not talking about how long it takes you to get to your finish line, we’re talking about you never making it. That is a horrible cycle that many people are in and they have grown miserable because the fruit of a non finisher is called sameness. Year after year no real progress, just the same ole same ole.

I believe a lot of what contributes to this sameness is lack of preparation. Are you one that emotionally make decisions, flying by the seat of your pants or are you one that takes time to think things out fully? I’m willing to bet if you answer was the latter than you are more likely to finish what you started. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes it’s very necessary to go with the gut and make fast moves, but if you are constantly going with the gut but getting the same negative results, it might be time to change your method some.

The scripture above says that you’ll end up looking foolish if you start laying a foundation but don’t finish the building.

It’s time for some serious introspection, are you the type of person the scripture speaks of? Today it’s time to make a change, don’t haste- take you time and consider all things so that when you make a decision it sticks and will be of a benefit to you!!
