Investing in Yourself

Everybody is invested or investing in something, but few people are investing into themselves!

Self-Investment is the most profitable investment you ever make. It yields not only future returns, but often a current pay-off as well. The surest way to achieve a better quality life, to be successful, productive, and satisfied is to place a priority on investing in both personal and professional growth. The effort you put into consistently investing in yourself plays a large role in determining the quality of your life now and in the future.

Below are three way you can invest in yourself.

Develop your skills. Improving your skills doesn’t always mean investing in higher education. You can download eBooks of pertinent topics to your career, subscribe to current blogs, and take continued education classes.

Explore your creative side. There is a fountain of creativity within most of us that has never been tapped or certainly hasn’t been used to its highest potential. It’s time to tap into that Creativity! You’ve been inside of the box too long and the world is waiting to see what you will create when you decided to create outside of the lines. Below are some ideas that can help jump start your creativity.

  • Learn a new language
  • write something – a book, short stories, poetry, anything
  • Explore the outside world
  • Enjoy music
  • Create something tangible – paint, sculpt, make pottery, make jewelry or design your own clothes.

Nurture your mind and body. Nurturing both your mind and body allows you to have more to give now and  in the future, more energy, more knowledge, more ideas, greater strength, physical and mental endurance.

Expand your mind. Learning new things and keeping your mind active even in simple ways helps to grow and maintain your mental ability.

  • Read – anything and everything
  • Explore culture – attend performances, listen to different style of music, travel, or join an organization or group comprised of people from different backgrounds.
  • Open your mind – engage in conversations with those who disagree with you. Look at an argument and try to make a case for the opposing point of view.
  • Keep your mind active

Investing in yourself truly makes a difference in your life, your well-being, and your ability to thrive and perform to the best of your ability. The extent to which you invest in yourself, mind and body, not only shapes the way you interact with the outside world, it often reflects the opinion you have of yourself. Your future is in large part determined by your willingness and ability to invest in yourself now.

Honesty

What Does it Take to be Honest?

We live in a society that appreciates the person who puts on good appearances. Due to the popularity and necessity of social networks and reality TV etc. what’s real and honest can be easily traded for what is superficial. Operating under this consciousness over a period of time knowing or unknowingly creates dissociative behaviors that if not recognized, can become clinical. Going against the grain and demanding that you live in truth and tell the truth, will inadvertently set you against the masses of this culture. Below are 3 of the many things you have to have to be honest.

  1. It takes a security in who you are and what you are to be an honest person.

You have to be comfortable saying things that are opposite of the opinionated majority. If you don’t like confrontation, or you are overly concerned with other’s opinions of you, it is very likely you are not as honest as you think you are.

  1. You must be secure in the meaningful relationships in your life.

Many times people are dishonest because they are afraid that relationships will be ruined by truth. The reality is, if telling the truth can ruin a relationship, then your relationship is more than likely false. Real relationships are based on likeness and secured in truth. Let’s take a test, practice being 100% honest in all of your relationships. The results might be very telling!

  1. You must be dedicated to the truth whether it’s for you or against you.

Do you know that one person that dishes out the harsh-full truth at others expense, but require love and delicacy when they are being confronted? Yes, I do too! That person is not a person of truth. They are a hypocrite at best. To be honest, you have to be dedicated to the truth whether you are giving it or receiving it. Proverbs 21:2 states in the IES version, “Every man’s lifestyle is proper in his on view, but the Lord weighs the heart.” The first part of this proverb screams to me that we can fool ourselves into thinking we are right when we are not. If you are not a person that is open to letting loved ones offer you corrective criticism, then you are person that is blind and full of character inefficiencies. OUCH! Yes, I know that hurt, but I am just being “honest”.

Let’s try honesty on for the remainder of the year and see how it looks on you. i have a feeling it will look great!

Trusting in Him

trust-in-the-lord.jpg

One thing I know for sure is the world is filled with uncertainties. From terrorism, to the economy– not one second past the present is really guaranteed. With that being said I often wonder how those who don’t believe in anything greater than them handle the inescapable trouble of life. I’m reminded of the scripture

Psalms 61:2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

This scriptures totally sums up my life— when life gets hard I reach out to something that is bigger and better than what I am and he helps me EVERY TIME. See it’s my Faith that gives me the strength to do what I do. My Faith fuels my smile, my drive and my temperament. It is the motherboard of my soul. Without faith, I’m left to myself and my own reasons.

Psalms 3:5 – 7 says:

5. Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.6. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

This is the benefit of trusting someone higher than you – I’m not stuck with my own understanding. The truth of the matter is I don’t understand it all and I can’t figure it all out all the time, but when I pray he gives me direction.

I want to encourage you today to not take it all on yourself. This is what God is for, take time right now to talk to him, give him all your troubles, he’ll give you an understanding that’s far beyond what you can see right now.

Being Successful!

measuring-website-success.jpg

Success isn’t magical. It takes intention and purpose, furthermore it’s more of an inward work than outward. Below I’ve listed 3 things you have to do or become to achieve and maintain success.

1. Think positive. It’s so much easier to be pessimistic than to be optimistic, isn’t it? To look at the half empty glass instead of the half full glass, to criticize and complain instead of expressing our appreciation and gratitude for everything that happens to us and all around us. Well, not anymore.

2. Set goals and write them with target schedules. Without dreams, how can we have a winning attitude to fight life’s many battles? Without target schedules, goals are fantasies and unexciting.

3. Passion. We should love our work, whatever our vocation. We should be the best and throw away the “It’s already okay” mindset.

I want to hear your thoughts….what are your steps for success.

What’s Happening When “IT” Doesn’t Happen?

Hey guys as I promised, I wanted to share with you about a principle that is highly used in life but gets little recognition. It’s the Principle of the Journey. We are all on a journey, well hopefully we are all on a journey. If you like the way your life is now and don’t want nothing to change this blog isn’t for you. If you died right now and all of your dreams were fulfilled and goals met, this blog isn’t for you. This blog is for the miserable, those who are doing all they can to push to the next level, but find it hard to catch any kind of momentum. This blog is for those of you who have accomplished great things up until now but have this nagging thing in the pit of your belly that says, MORE! YOU MUST DO MORE!

The second description speaks of someone who is on a journey. They are passing through one life experience after the other learning, failing, succeeding, and growing. To sum all those adjectives up, I would like to simply call it EVOLVING! The difference between the life journey and a physical journey where you travel from point A to point B is your life journey will never end. There is never an end destination, as long as there is breath in your body you will always be on a journey. Do you understand that? If you have some sort of idea that one day you are going to “make it” you have it ALL wrong UNLESS you are willing to stop evolving. At the moment you are ready to stop evolving, at that very spot is your end destination.

So let’s get back to the original question What’s Happening When “IT” Doesn’t Happen. So you are waiting on a promise, you are waiting on THAT breakthrough and you just don’t understand what is going on??? Well I want to share with you my answer. Be encouraged, you are simply on a journey. Everyday you wake up, you are closer than you were before you went to sleep. Everyday is a learning experience and you are getting wiser and wiser. God is preparing your personality and your character and getting you prepared for that blessing. If you get it now, you won’t be prepared for the magnitude of it and liable to loose it. So he is tempering you with experiences, so don’t ever think that nothing is happening. God is fervently working on you to get you to that perfect place and when your character and personality arrive there THAT blessing will come.

p.s. When that blessing comes, don’t get too comfortable. In just a moment, you’ll be on the next journey evolving, growing and preparing for the next journey.

How’s Your Fruit – Love

the-word-love-in-cursive-Capture23

This is the strongest 4 letter world in the dictionary – urban, webster or you name it.

Love –  unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another:

So do you have love? Is your love component evangelizing your co-workers, friends, family members, and those your are connected with? You know the love component that is unselfish loyal and has a benevolent concern for the good of another. Or do you leave the four walls of the church every Sunday thinking about yourself, intoxicated with SELF. A lot of us if I ask across the board is your love component strong you will unanimously say yes, but if I ask you are you unselfishly loyal and do you have a benevolent concern for the good of another what will your response be?

To be like Christ is to sacrifice yourself willingly for the greater cause of someone else. Are you willing to take on lies, and accusation for the sake of being a great example?

I’m afraid that we haven’t conquered the most important, viable fruit of them all. I would even stretch to say if you don’t love properly you probably don’t have the other fruit.

I know today’s conversation was a little rough, but remember we are a walking billboard for Jesus. Jesus is LOVE, and if we don’t have proper love we don’t have proper Jesus.

Oh Boy Do We Have a Problem – Got Community?

gigats-cb-millennial-infographic-picture

Hello Family!

I hope you have been enjoying this week as much I have…
I wanted to talk about our 4th installment of this weeks conversation: “O Boy Do We Have a Problem”
I have a question – Got Community?
Interesting enough the phenomenon of social media has proved one thing to us, milinniuals thrive off of community. They want to be apart of a group, a team, or a mission. There is one minor caveat I must add to that though – as long as it doesn’t threaten their individuality. One of the things that makes social media work for this generation is the community they are able to build and control. If they don’t like a particular person in their community they can kick them out (block or unfollow them). If you want to bait a milinnial offer them community. A place to belong and fit in, somewhere where they can grow and spread their wings.
Because of the lack of genuine relationships in the world, not just the millennial generation, community is key for evangelism for any generation.
I want to challenge you today, what have you created that is inviting for this generation? Are your programs geared towards satisfying that internal quota that says you HAVE to be doing something or is it a genuine well thought out and constructed organism that is a safe place for growth and development?
